The traditional monitoring projects are focused on obtaining standardized data, contrary to the web portals that collect ornithological observations, that take advantage on the huge quantity of casual observations ornithologists do in their day by day along all the year. In fact, with only 15 years, this portals have revolutionize the collection of naturalistic data. Only in Catalonia each day, more than 1500 bird observations are entered in the ornitho.cat portal. And in all Europe are about 30 millions per year! This are inconceivable figures some years ago.
But, is it enough to collect millions of data? Is it possible to collect a lot of data and do it in a standardized way? Which is the futures of this portals, will they be a successor of a lot of projects or they will just be a complement?
Gabriel Gargallo, manager of the Institut Català d’Ornitologia and coordinator of EuroBirdPortal will talk us about these and many other questions in DBF16. You can’t miss it!
