Yes, we did it again! Yesterday we gave symbolically a check of the profit obtained from ticket selling at last year’s edition of the Delta Birding Festival. As announced, this money will be set aside to finance the expeditions that will be sent to gather data for the new European Breeding Birds Atlas 2 (EBBA2). This money will go to finance two expeditions, the first one will travel to the Kola Peninsula, reaching out to the remote Kanin Cape, near the Russian polar circle and the second one will explore the hardly accessible mountain ranges of Greece, where information for EBBA2 is much needed.
We will post how those expeditions develop so stay tuned if you want to know how our Russian and Greek colleagues are able to survey those regions.
EBBA2 is quite a challenge for European ornithologists and has the goal to gather essential data for science and nature conservation. This is one of the most ambitious projects to map biodiversity that has ever been undertaken.
Also, a second check has been given to Picampall, the ornithological association in the Terres de l’Ebre, which is the region around the Ebro Delta. Money will be dedicated to the study of a population of Black Wheatear (Oenanthe leucura) in the Terres de l’Ebre. This species is in strong regression and that’s why its study is essential to avoid its extinction.
Thanks to you we did again!
