The main conference room will host several lectures from renowned international ornithologists, such as Hadoram Shirihai, israelian specialist on Paleartic birds identification and rediscoverer of several pelagic petrel species that had been considered extinct; Dick Forsman, author of the best European raptor id guide up to now; Markus Varesvuo, Finish bird photographer who takes astonishing pictures; Dani López Velasco, Spanish birder who works as a professional guide for Birdquest, one of the most important birding tour operator of the world; Ponç Feliu and Aleix Comas, two Catalan birders who will talk about bird Big Days and Big Years; Carles Carboneras, Catalan ornithologist working at the RSPB/Birdlife on vulture conservation ; Javier de la Puente, of the Spanish Ornithological Society and expert in the study of migratory birds in the Iberian Peninsula; Joan Ferrer, Southern seabird expert; Toni Llobet and Juan Varela, bird illustrator of well known prestige; Martí Franch, coordinator of the Catalan Atlas will explain the methodology and analysis techniques of the new Atlas that the ICO is producing with the collaboration of hundreds of volunteers… and more to come.

And we will also have Dominic Mitchell among us, editor of the prestigious bird magazine Birdwatch, of which a special promotion will be done at the festival.
In parallel, more conferences, presentations of new books or products will take place in other conference rooms.


Saturday morning will be the time for a boat trip on the Ebro river from the mouth to Gràcia Island in which you’ll have the opportunity to observe many of the Delta birds that thrive by the river and its islands, where anything can turn up in the migration season.

Sunday morning you can join a 15-mile offshore trip to watch seabirds in the Mediterranean. Balearic Shearwater, an endemism from the archipelago, will be an interesting highlight but we also expect to see seagulls, terns, occasional skuas and any surprise the sea has for us.

This lagoon is the least known of the Delta because it is a strictly protected reserve and can’t be visited by the public. Now the FCLP is creating paths and observation hides to open it to visitor access under guidance. During the Festival, special guided visits will be held, ending with a ringing demonstration.

You don’t know how to start birding? Don’t worry, the ICO will organize guided tours to watch birds near the Festival grounds of MónNatura Delta addressed to people with little or no experience. You’ll learn the basics on bird ID and how to take flight in this fascinating world.

Saturday and Sunday early morning and lead by Santi Martorell, technician from Ebro Delta Natural Park, there will be a photographic tour throughout Delta. The meeting point will be MónNatura Delta entrance and you will move by private vehicle. These journeys will also count on Antonio Liébana’s presence, an expert naturalistic photographer that will delight all participants with his photography advises and his CANON equipment.

*Activities are free but it is necessary to book on advance at as places are limited (25 people/day) and assigned by strict booking order.

Swarovski will teach a course on digiscoping techniques, Bushnell one on phototrapping, Alosa will deliver a workshop on bird sounds, Picampall will teach us about owl pellets, Toni Llobet will teach digital bird illustration and Oryx will propose you to turn your garden in a bird paradise.



Visitors will find exhibitions in several points of the DBF. For example, spectacular photographs of Birds of Paradise by wildlife photographer Tim Laman will be exhibited in the section of optical equipment.

An exhibition by the ICO will show the development of the monitoring and conservation project funded by DBF’s previous edition.

In addition, the Museu de les Terres de l’Ebre in Amposta, will host an exhibition of unpublished work by local naturalist illustrators.

In the classrooms of the building Mirador 360º there will be free, continuous activities for kids conducted by specialized monitors.



Festival facilities at MónNatura Delta offer several highlights to visit: l’Espai Delta, a museum ce to understand the origins of the Delta, the stunning variety of wildlife that it hosts and a video show that summarizes in a poetic way the passing of the four seasons; the Mirador 360º with spotting scopes to contemplate the rich bird life of the Delta from the only elevated point over La Tancada lagoon; The Salt Pans, to learn how salt is produced in the Delta; the Traditional fishing zone to experience a bit of traditional culture and daily life in this territory; the Canoe Poling Canals, a fun activity to practice old-style navigation through the canals and lagoons, like fishermen do. Organized theme visits to the centre will be run twice a day.

Friday night will be the time for a cinema session with the film premiere in Spain of the superb documentary “Birders. The Central Park Effect” by Jeffrey Kimball in which some characters, such as writer Jonathan Franzen, narrate how their passion for birding was born.



Director, producer, collaborators and protagonists will comment on the details and highlights of the shootings and unveil the contents of the upcoming episodes.
