It is frequent that the natural protected areas depend on the public administration, but unfortunately they can’t arrive to all of the corners that deserve a special protection. Here is where the private entities take part on it. They have the aim of promoting biodiversity, employment and conservation of the cultural heritage.
A very good example of this kind of entities is Salarte, the only private entity that manages a preserved area of Andalusia. Thanks to their effort, they have convert the Covacha Island, in the Bay of Cadiz, into the first ornithological reserve declared on Andalusia. Among other projects, they also manage the Vicario Island, where they have recovered a common spoonbill colony that had disappeared in 2010, and today is the biggest colony of this species in Southern Europe.
The managers of the entity will offer us a talk during the festival about how have they manage to transform the Bay of Cadiz in a very interesting place to practice ornithological tourism thanks to their effort, that was recognized in 2015 with the XIX Andalucía Medio Ambiente award.
